Transforming Biodiversity Monitoring with eDNA
1.All living things leave tiny traces of DNA in the environment, from bacteria and fungi to fish and even blue whales.
2.Collecting water, soil or sediment. Allows this DNA to be captured.
3.DNA is extracted from the sample in a DNA lab.
4.The DNA is amplified using a different analysis for each target group.
5.The amplified DNA is then sequenced.
6.Bioinformatics analysis identifies individual species and determines sample diversity.
